Dark days need bright images!

19th February, 2019 by Steve J

In these early days of the year when the hours of daylight are still comparatively short we all look for a little brightness and light. All around the area where I live smaller cinemas are re-invigorating town centres.

The Curzon in Knutsford is a lovely venue. We went to see a couple of films there over the last few weeks. Stan and Ollie starring Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly. A week or two before we saw the brilliant award winning Alfonso Cuaron movie “Roma” – a beautifully directed film set in Mexico in 1971. The Savoy in Heaton Moor and the newly opened Rex in Wilmslow are also looking very promising.

You could see these at many huge city multiplex screens but I believe the way these smaller venues are running their businesses is brilliant. The places are well run, spotlessly clean, all the staff are attentive and interested in what they are doing.

Despite our huge home widescreen TV sets, a cinema is where to become totally absorbed by a movie. Emerging into the foyer blown away and struggling for words by what you have seen and heard is a really good feeling. These are moments you remember.

I struggle to think of many better ways of filling your heart with joy on a grey Saturday in February. So please support your local cinemas. We almost lost these places years ago but now they are back and doing things properly but they need us to use them, to escape in the moment.
