Strictly Tango'd ...

20th February, 2018 by Steve J

Life is about experiencing new things. It is what keeps us fresh. In the final months of last year I was lucky enough to be commissioned to edit a short video for esteemed Argentinian Tango dancers and choreographers, Alexandra Wood and Guillermo Torrens. This was a lovely blend of footage shot in theatres before a live audience, alongside impromptu material shot whilst on the road travelling from venue to venue. I edited the sequence together in early November.

Now, 3 months later there I was at the Opera House in Buxton watching the wonderful Tangomotion show for real. Tangomotion features new choreographies created for the 2018 tour by world-class tango dancers Alexandra and Guillermo, along with Paula Duarte and Richard Manuel. With new original music and evergreen tango classics from the acclaimed Tango Siempre quartet, comprising piano, double bass, violin and bandoneon, they conjured up sounds that went from sublimely beautiful to overtly dramatic. Passionate stuff!

As someone who only had a passing interest in the “Strictly” phenomena, this raised the bar… a lot. I had no idea just how intensely moving this stuff could be. For me anyway, it started with being handed a “quick” video edit to complete. Now my eyes have truly been opened. Thanks Tangomotion.
